I Will Honor Thee

Me and the dogs make three,

walking in the rain beneath the trees.

The much-needed water dripping from the leaves.

It gently soaked us as we walked.

I looked up and thanked God for the cleansing water.

But then I had to ask why did you take her?

He brought to my mind all the people who suffered like me.

I read your words in Lamentations three where,

Thomas Chisholm found the words to write.

Great is Thou Faithfulness

Who was sickly most of his adult life.

I thought about Horatio Spafford and all he lost.

A business, a son and four daughters at sea.

While crossing the same ocean to meet with his wife,

He crossed over where the shipwreck occurred,

and wrote such beautiful poetic words,

It is Well with My Soul.

Which is one of my favorite hymns.

I could write about so many more,

but all I can ask is for you to go before.

Cleanse my heart like you just cleansed the earth.

Give me some peace as you did for her when you set her free.

In the meantime, me and the dogs will carry on down here,

And I will honor Thee.
